LIVING-ROOM LAMP

(Selected artwork for XXV Edición de Circuitos de Artes Plásticas de la Comunidad de Madrid, Spain)

The concept of Illumination is not only interpreted from a physical point of view, as the deliberate use of light with the
use of a device to illuminate a space. Illumination is also related to an intellectual arena linked to knowledge,
whereby we rationally understand through our experience.

Living-Room Lamp joins both perspectives with the use of a present artifact in a quotidian space, where the daily life is lived.
The surface that is above our heads, is full with images and information that come from one of the a daily-use media
to achieve knowledge of our environment and our society: the newspaper.

In these projections, we can see a series of relentless, continued and persistent information, around which oscillate
common ideas that were installed in the Spanish society collective imagination between 1997 and 2008.

The work is an installation consisted of a domestic lamp series and integrated within a quotidian space: the living room.
Every lamp corresponds to a bubble housing period, since 1997 to 2008. From each of them, a video is projected
on the ceiling, comprising newspaper images that belong to the Spanish National Library.
This series of images above our heads invades the space and floods it with information that comes from official
sources, supposedly with credibility, as the newspapers are.
